1. Taipei City Marathon

Taipei Marathon was one of the first races we saw that truly blew other runs out of the water. We were incredibly impressed by how well organized and how awesome of a race it was to participate in for a 40,000 participant run. Located in the tiny island of Taiwan, just southeast of China, the run is internationally renown and brings in the top athletes from around the world to compete for 6-figure cash prizes. The course takes you through the normally-traffic-jammed areas of the congested City and crosses through beautiful parts of Taipei. You get to see and experience the City in a way even the locals will never get to experience without participating in the run.

The restrooms were incredibly designed and clean, the post-race food was solid, and the runner items were a sleeve-less tech shirt, sponsor goodies, and a towel. Famous stars were invited to take part in pre-race and post-race activities. The sheer ability to organize on this level given the difficult circumstance but yet the amazing scenery Taipei has to offer, makes Taipei Marathon one of the best races to sign-up for (if you ever get a chance to travel across the world for a run).

2. The Lantern Run (5K)

An evening short distance run (5K) that can be found in several cities, its concept stands out from other races with the run taking place just after dusk. By the time most participants finish, it’s completely dark but the run offers plenty of things to light the night with. Aside from the lanterns hung around the venue, every participant also receives a personal LED lit lantern as well as a glow item to wear during the run and after the run. The after-party is like a night party with moving lights and a DJ. Runners are awarded with not only technical shirts, finishing medals, lanterns, and glow gear but they also return to a plethora of unique snacks from around the world. The venues are different in each City but the runs seem to have very pretty courses through popular parks and City streets.

The Lantern Run stands out from the traditional morning races and is a solid run to sign-up with family, friends, or co-workers. The runner goodies, course, post-race activities, food, and just the event taking place at night makes it an event that shines from the others.

3. Hot Chocolate Run

The Hot Chocolate Run is a favorite for both serious runners and leisure runners with the option of a short 5K or a long 15K. All of their courses normally run around iconic places in the downtown of the City, which makes it a scenic run to do.

The post-race party is simple but offers what few can resist chocolate. The best part of the Hot Chocolate Run is the swag- arguably one of the best swags for a race, Hot Chocolate Run has offered its participants high quality hoodies, jackets, mugs, drawstring bags, and more.

A combination of scenic downtown routes and very high quality swag makes Hot Chocolate Run a great race to sign-up for.

4. Boston Marathon (26.2 miles)

The Boston Marathon is really a classic. And though it’s reserved for the best runners from the around the nation, what makes it a unique experience if you ever get a chance to participate, is the energy from the supporting crowd all along the route. You feel like you’re pumped throughout the race, which also passes, by scenic points in Boston, MA.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, it’s become an even more special experience to complete the race despite the tragic terrorist attacks. It takes a lot of work and training to even qualify but the Boston Marathon is a superbly organized run and stands out from many other marathons.

5. Electric Run

When the Electric Run first came out, it wow’ed its participants with over-the-top course decorations transforming any typical route into a light wonderland with awe-striking decor. Running through the course was a jaw-dropping experience itself and was followed by a big night concert after the run.

Electric Run did not need to focus much on the traditional crowd-pleasers such as food or good gear as it blew away its participants with the course experience that left people raving about just being part of the run.
