Is the trend of Fun Runs Dying?

In 2013, we saw the wave of fun runs exploding around the nation with Color Run and Electric Run booming in the market. And so we came out with our own fun concept and were one of the first to ride the wave. We partnered with some of the strongest influencers at the time. That year we had over 60,000 participants and grossed $4 Million Dollars in revenue.

If you’re in the business today, the hype seems to have calmed down and we don’t see too many large runs. So is the trend of fun runs dying?

The short answer is yes

In fact, the top fun runs, Color Run and Electric Run have expanded internationally and have not hosted large races in the U.S.

But the reality is there are still numerous runs happening all around the U.S. which shows there is still a market for people wanting to come out and run while being part of a fun community event.

While it may not be an exploding trend, fun runs can and will continue to draw out participants if the event is fun, well-organized, and (hopefully) for a good cause in the local community.

If you’re looking to put on a run and aren’t quite sure where to start, we’ve done a number of them and would love to talk to you. Shoot us an email and let’s chat.
